Well Doncaster Annual Report 2019-2020

We are very pleased to share our Annual Report for 2019-2020.

The Well Doncaster Team has been working hard over the past year with communities to support thriving, healthy places for residents to enjoy.

At the start of the Well Doncaster journey, Doncaster’s Director of Public Health, Dr Rupert Suckling, described Well Doncaster as ‘lightning rod and a catalyst for action’.

This has never been more apparent than in 2019-20 as Well Doncaster collaborated with Sport England’s Doncaster Local Delivery Pilot (LDP), which has embedded the Well Doncaster ethos of Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) into its approach. This can be seen in the recruitment and training Community Explorers who conducted interviews across communities and establishing a community grant to support innovative, grassroots approaches to physical activity.

Community Wealth Building is a people-centred approach to local economic development. It aims to redirect wealth back into the local economy, by placing control into the hands of local people. Well Doncaster has recently received funding from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), on behalf of Sheffield City Region, until June 2022. The investment will help new (pre-start) or existing community-based enterprises to develop their business offer, improving their ability to provide products and services for large ‘anchor’ organisations.

The Well Doncaster team has gown and this has enabled the programme to establish itself in each locality in the borough, support more communities, gain more community insight and work with partners to support communities in times of crisis.

This is just a taste of the fantastic work that has been happening through out the past year. Read the full report Well Doncaster Annual Report 2019-20
