The King’s Award for Voluntary Service (KAVS) is the highest award given to volunteer groups in the UK and is equivalent to an MBE. It is given annually and recognises and rewards volunteer groups that make a significant difference to their communities. The King’s Award for Voluntary Service (KAVS) stands as the highest honour for volunteer groups in the UK. This prestigious accolade is awarded annually to recognize and reward groups that make a significant positive impact within their communities. The announcement of the recipients always coincides with November 14th, the King’s birthday.

For 2024, the award has been given to 2 outstanding groups: Edlington Community Organisation and Active Fusion. Both of these organisations exemplify dedication and commitment to service, making a considerable difference in their local areas and we would like to spread awareness of them to other voluntary groups to show what can be achieved!

These awards not only highlight the invaluable contributions of volunteers but also inspire others to engage in community service and support their neighbours. Anyone, including beneficiaries, members of the public, public body representatives, and other voluntary groups can nominate on the KAVS website.

The Edlington Community Organisation was established with the purpose of revitalising Edlington and the surrounding areas, ensuring it becomes a better place for everyone. As a charity, they thrive on community involvement and partnerships while collaborating with various groups and businesses. They offer support that covers a wide range of services: Community Engagement, Social Services, Youth Programs, Community Events, Environmental Initiatives, Advocacy, Volunteer Opportunities, Skill Building, Community Development, Networking!  The organisation has successfully secured almost 2 million pounds in funding and contracts to provide essential community services since its formation, which is fantastic achievement for Edlington! ECO are inclusive and accessible to anyone and a dedicated team of volunteers, committed to creating a positive voice for their community.

Samantha Siddall, Manager of this inspiring group in Edlington spoke to the local press about their accomplishment: “What an achievement for our small charity. To be recognised for the work we do, with the highest of awards, is an absolute honour and privilege. I am delighted that Edlington Community Organisation’s work has been recognised with The Kings Award for Voluntary Services, and I would like to pay tribute to everyone involved with our charity, as without you, this award wouldn’t have been granted.”
