Email address:  sam.thopmson@doncaster.gov.uk

Locality: Central Doncaster

I have spent the last 6 years working within Health and Wellbeing and joined the Well Doncaster team in June 2024 as a Public Health Improvement Officer. I am grateful to be a part of preventative approaches that are working towards improving health outcomes and quality of life by combating health and wealth inequalities. I am driven to support and influence the impact of public health interventions and policies to help individuals and communities be as health and happy as possible.

As a Public Health Improvement Officer, I support Well Doncaster as we utilise community centred approach to addressing health and wealth inequalities that embody resident-led decision making. This holistic approach is leading to positive health and wealth creation. It is great to see community transformation at a local and hyper-local level and ensuring the residents voice is at the heart of change. I enjoy working alongside partners and supporting the Well Doncaster team to build stronger and more resilient communities.

Before joining Well Doncaster, I worked in primary care for 2 years as a Health and Wellbeing Coach working with patients in general practice to better manage their health conditions and support a preventative approach to healthcare. I have a degree in Sport and Exercise Science and started my career working at Nuffield Health as a Personal Trainer and Rehabilitation Specialist where I spent 4 years gaining valuable hands-on experience leading rehabilitation projects and working with various clients one to one.

Fun fact: I spent a year living in the south of France and went to school there.

What people appreciate about me: I am approachable and easy to get along with and there if anyone ever needs a chat.

What is important to me: Staying health and happy and finding opportunities to do what you enjoy, for me that’s being involved in sports and staying fit. I regularly train jujitsu and powerlifting.

The thing I enjoy best about being part of Well Doncaster: The team are great! having worked more independently in previous roles, it’s refreshing to be part of a friendly team who are passionate and ambitious about the work we do.
