Building on Community Spirit in Edlingon

Article Added: 28/05/24

For the past 3 months, Well Doncaster have been facilitating Design Workshops at Edlington Library. Design Workshops are where residents and partners come together, to see how we could build on the dreams and aspirations of their community. In Edlington, the workshops have been focused on the theme - ‘Community Spirit’.

At Well Doncaster, we encourage people to notice the good in their community and build on their strengths, rather than just focusing on the weaknesses — because if you want something to last, you build on strong, sturdy foundations. When we do that, we’re able to make realistic plans that lead to positive and lasting changes — and in the process, we all see that while there are things we might like to improve, there’s a whole lot to celebrate too.

In the last 3 meetings, we celebrated all the great things going on in Edlington, and spoke about ways we could showcase and promote all the wonderful activities that are happening in the village. Residents and partners shared that they are lucky to have a great community magazine – ‘Edlington and Warmsworth Talks’, but would like more events, community groups and local stories promoted in the magazine. The group recognised that there are so many local people volunteering in Edlington, and they are not always recognised for the work they do – they would like the magazine to be an outlet to celebrate this.

The group is looking at accessing funding for the magazine, so it can include more good news stories and offer community pages free of charge to local groups. This is just one example of the pieces of work coming out of these meetings.

If you are a resident in Edlington or own a business/community group in the Village then we would love to see you at the next Design Workshop. They are held at the Martinwells Centre in the Library on the third Monday of the month, 1.30pm-2.30pm.

Everyone welcome – just turn up! Together, we can build on the fantastic Community Spirit in Edlington.
