The Community Wealth Builder team funded a microgrant to the community, voluntary and faith sector to celebrate International Women’s Day in March 2024. The theme of our grant this year was ‘Lets inspire inclusion’ and ‘Accelerate progress’.  Fourteen organisations  were successful, with grants of up to £500 available.  A total of £6167.16 was awarded to organisations across the city.

There were a vast variety of events taking place within Doncaster, aimed at a wide age range from young children through to some of the city’s much older residents.

Cusworth and Sprotbrough

Several groups held celebration events for the women who use their services, one of which was held at the Goldsmith Centre in Sprotbrough who held a coffee morning attended by residents and users of the centre.  They took part in a series of games and quizzes themed around influential women and a display was played throughout the day on the large screen in the centre.  There were also activities for 40 children in the area, including themed  colouring sheets, a bingo game and reading books about inspirational women and female leaders.

These events helped to combat social isolation in the area as well as providing the ongoing resource of the books that will be available to borrow from the book swap.

The Polish Scouting Group

The Polish Scouting group held two events one for the cub scouts in Intake and one for older scouts in Edenthorpe, where they held educational science lessons led by teachers from the Nicolaus Copernicus Polish School with a focus on Marie Slodowska-Curie and Wieslawa Szymborska and their incredible work.

Thorne Arts Network

Thorne Arts Network held a flower pressing workshop 15 participants ranging in age from 11 to more mature ladies, allowing Mother’s and Grandmother’s to take part alongside younger family members, some comments made following the session were:

Jenny- I enjoyed the flower picture, it made me feel relaxed and calm.

Julie- Lovely friendly environment and very knowledgeable. Really enjoyed learning new things.

Bethany-I enjoyed this making a flower print with my friend.

Donna- really enjoyed this flower session and would love to do more.
