Spotlight: Friends of Clay Lane
Article Added: 21/05/24
Friends of Clay Lane is a constituted group based close to the centre of Doncaster, serving the community of Clay Lane.
The group was set up by a small number of local residents whose aim was to be more active in their community. They approached the Well Doncaster Officer for their locality who along with providing some support, signposted them to Community Wealth Builder to support them through the start-up process. This included support to write their constitution, set up an organisational bank account and ensure they had all of the relevant policies and procedures in place.
Once this process was completed, they were ready to start planning activities and events for their community. They were supported to apply for the VCFS grant and were successful in being awarded funding to host a fun day for all of the community. This has supported them to become sustainable as they were able to purchase equipment for use at future events.
Community Wealth Builder awarded the group a Children and Young People’s Microgrant and a Halloween activity pack, which has allowed them to hold activities during October half-term for all of the children and young people who live in Clay Lane.
‘Having only been formed for less than four months with an idea brought about whilst painting the play park, we're happy to announce our largest grant yet! This grant will allow us to continue the hard work we're doing running events and in bringing together and improving our community. This is only a small drop in the ocean for what we want to achieve for the estate and we'd love your help. Thank you also to Kelly our Well Doncaster Officer, Anushka from Community Wealth Builder for helping us with our application and Kate at the Social Isolation and Loneliness Alliance for her support getting over the finishing line. You're all amazing!’
