Skelbrooke Community Action Group are an active community group who work to improve the area in which they live.  It is a small village with a beautiful church which was originally built between 1180 and 1220 and was largely rebuilt in 1872 after a fire.  It features highly ornate wall and ceiling paintings which were cleaned and restored in 2022 thanks to a National Lottery Heritage grant and the hard work of the community to match fund through a variety of fundraising events. Community Wealth Builder are proud to be able to work with and support the group, they were recently successful in applying for a Community wealth Builder Earth Day grant to enhance their community garden. The group encourages people to visit the church and the nearby community garden which can be used for picnics and recreation. They were able to purchase a picnic table, a hedgehog box, a wheelbarrow, they’ve planted two apple blossom trees and replaced a sign welcoming visitors to the area. The group planned their Kings Coronation celebration in the garden and received a Coronation Goodie Bag from the Community Wealth Builder Team to compliment the celebrations.

Ruthe Roche, from Skelbrooke Community Action Group said “We were delighted to be awarded the Community Wealth Builder grant and the coronation celebration pack. The grant will allow us to purchase more plants, wildlife shelter and garden furniture for our community garden. We hope that not only villagers will enjoy the garden but that anyone passing through the village on foot or bike or by car can stop and enjoy it. We would encourage other community groups to get involved with the Community Wealth Builder programme.
