Walk Confident

Article Added: 01/12/23

On Friday 1st December, Lorna Bagilhole, Community Connector for Bawtry and Austerfield Wellbeing Project launched the organisation’s first ‘Walk Confident’ leaflet. The leaflet project was designed following conversations with residents identifying that some have lost confidence in walking due to age and ill health. The route highlights benches and toilet facilities so that residents know that following the route they will have rest places, therefore giving residents more confidence to go out and walk.

To launch the walk Lorna Bagilhole, the Community Connector for Bawtry and Austerfield Wellbeing Project who planned the route, led a community walk of the route highlighting the rest places to help residents feel more confident than if doing the route on their own for the first time. The walk ended at Bawtry Community Library where all enjoyed a cuppa, chat and a mince pie. For those who didn’t attend the launch, the leaflets have been distributed in The Bawtry Today magazine, reaching all homes in Bawtry and Austerfield as well as being available in community venues.

The first leaflet has already been a huge success resulting in an increase particularly in older residents coming out of the house and walking and Lorna has been supported by Well Doncaster Officer Georgia Snape to submit an Active Communities Grant application to fund the design and distribution of a further two leaflets promoting routes in the community.
